Talking to Yourself is NOT Crazy - Preface
Talking To Yourself Is Not Crazy is more than just the title of this book. It is how I, day after day, week after week, and year after year, re-programmed myself to the concepts, visions, attitudes, and belief systems that would ultimately change my life for the better. And they did, only with far greater return than anything I even dared to dream about.

I talk to myself and I am not crazy. I do affirmations daily; I write specific goals and monitor them regularly; I spend hours visualizing (picturing what I want as if it were already mine) and I learned to meditate, to slow down my left brain, and utilize the unlimited power of my right brain, the brain of creation.
I talk to myself when I read some of the things I wrote (much of which is in this book) aloud and with emotion. Later I learned that it is emotion that opens the trap door between the conscious and subconscious minds.
The rest is history for me and for the thousands of people that I have had the privilege of coaching and consulting with over the years. They are not crazy either – but most of them are wiser, happier, far more content and fulfilled and enjoy better lives than before they started talking to themselves.
That’s right, regardless of what anyone says, Talking To Yourself Is Not Crazy, especially when you do it on purpose, as an instrument to bolster your confidence and strengthen your ability for peak performance.
Self-talk is what you think and say about yourself, both in your head and aloud, each and every morning of your life and throughout the day. It is a method of helping you to feel good about yourself, to pepper your subconscious mind with thoughts and emotions that you want to embed, so that when the time comes you can reference and express them with sincerity and conviction.
The self-talk that I am speaking about in this book is the talk you use to either simply program your brain to attract what it is that you want to create in your life or to overcome adversity and turn your thinking process around to something more productive.
You see, whether you like it or not, as long as you are alive, there will be times that you will have to deal with one or more of life’s challenges – in fact, you can count on it. Sooner or later something is going to rock your boat and upset your apple cart.
Stuff happens. It is inevitable. And, believe it or not, often times, stuff happens to test your inner strength and to provide you with an opportunity for personal growth.
Of course, the extent to which life’s pitfalls and difficulties affects you is determined by your perspective, your past experience, the degree of ownership you take in the problem or situation and your individual personality characteristics.
I want to make it crystal clear that the self-talk you use BEFORE adversity strikes (your daily affirmations, etc.) is more important for preventing problems and negative circumstances than the self-talk you scramble to use AFTER they happen.
How you talk to yourself before you experience any misfortune has everything to do with the way it affects you and how you decide to work through it. Negative self-talk (fear and worry, anxiety-producing statements and feeling sorry for yourself) makes it more difficult to shake off the negatives you are feeling and extends your recovery time indefinitely. Why? Because this kind of self-talk inhibits you from accepting the circumstances you find yourself embroiled in and stops you from being able to move on.
However, when you use self-talk that promotes self-confidence, it becomes easier to maintain a positive perspective. When trouble does strike, you can employ conscious and positive self-talk to lessen its impact, enhance creativity, build optimism, change states and support a healthy self-image.
What a cool tool! “I am getting through this” or “This is just a set-back that I will overcome” or “I will deal with it and move on” or “This calls for the courage I have been storing up” or “This setback (whatever it is) is trying to teach me a lesson that I need and want to learn.”
Whatever the words, the important thing is to consciously Talk to Yourself using positive, constructive and pro-active statements and by reading narratives such as those appearing on the following pages.
You must first purge your brain from its past habitual repetitions and then input the program and thinking patterns that you want it to use to attract your newfound health, happiness, success, and fulfillment.
Start talking to yourself RIGHT NOW! Pepper your mind with the thoughts you want to embed. Say your daily affirmations out loud and with enthusiasm, remembering it is emotion that opens the door from your conscious mind to your subconscious mind. Do this again and again and again. Repeat and Review with Regularity (RRR) everything you want to be or become, until what you say or think sticks.
Mentally talk to yourself (repeating thoughts, actions and feelings) and tell yourself who you are and want you want, NOT what you don’t want!
Finally, I would ask you to realize that Talking To Yourself Is Not Crazy. It is, in fact, the one of the most significant tools you can use to transform your entire life!
