True Generosity - 1/17/2010

With the devastating and unimaginably destructive Haitian Earthquake so visible on every front page, major channel and news talk show -- I thought this would be an opportunity for all of us to examine if we are truly generous – or do we just say or like to think we are?

Does it take a disaster of catastrophic proportions for us to open our hearts and, of course, our wallets?  And, was that the first thing you thought of, or did you cry, feel  bad or sad, watch the news all day, but do nothing to activate the generosity button that lives in your heart – especially for service to humanity?

Remember, generosity is the polar opposite of having a poverty consciousness – where hoarding money, being frugal, holding on to what you have or being cheap creates a lack mentality that actually reduces the soul.

Generosity on the other hand means to flourish, be whole, thrive and experience favorable results. It is a word of abundance, plenty and expansion.

No one is telling anyone how much to give but I know that whatever you what to give you can stretch it out a little.  The Red Cross is asking for $10 from all of us.  I say give $20 and if you were going to give $50, give $100.  Our own Country Club is filling some trucks with clothing, food and water, it doesn’t matter – give! The key is to give with an open heart.

Decide what you want to give, then stretch that just a little more than your first thought and then remind your family and friends to do the same.

At the Parker Seminar in Las Vegas this weekend I was acutely conscious as I walked through the casinos that people who had no chance if winning were gambling away a their money.  Good for them, but how about re-directing and aiming your generosity to those who are in desperate need.

I felt great this weekend, when I donated all the proceeds of the sales of my books and CD albums – a substantial amount to this effort.

I am happy to report that on March 3 – 7th, 50 member chiropractors of The Markson Connection are joining with JC Doornick and Todd Herold’s ChiroMission to the Dominican Republic, Haiti’s neighboring country.    We were going adjust 40,000 – 59,000 Dominicans and those Haitians who live in Haitian villages just over the border.

Now we are going to do whatever is necessary. We will carry water if that’s what it takes or help distribute food, while we adjust whomsoever.

Yes, and opportunity for generosity, a huge ingredient of both success and happiness, has been placed before us.

Please take advantage
