Making the Commitment to Live Inside-Out - 8/23/2009
As you know, one of my good friends and mentors is Richard Flint, author, speaker, success coach – and “fair” golfer!! Nevertheless, when Richard speaks I have learned to listen – and recently at his annual StarMakers Seminar, I not only listened, but took notes as he was talking about living an inside – out life.
His first sentence was, “Life is not about what you want; it is about what you are willing to commit yourself to achieving.” How true – how true! Success and happiness requires a personal commitment and a compelling desire to change yourself into a person who will do whatever it takes to become the winner you were born to be.
Most people are not committed to really doing what they say; their commitment is to testing the water and seeing if it is worth the effort. The reality to this statement is they don’t give the event the right energy to really wee what it can offer their life.
How do you tell if a person, or better yet, how do you tell if you are not committed? That’s really easy if you are a person who is aware of what you think about, what you say, and how you react to the various situations in your life. Are you a procrastinator, do you defend yourself, make excuses, use alibis, excuses and rationalizations? Do you do the same old thing in the same old way and expect to get different or better results? Do you have a plan or a goal or do you just get up each day and see what life has in store for you? Are you living and Outside – In life, meaning that instead of creating the future, your life is based on what happen to you?
When a person is committed to living inside-out, they use daily preparation so they do not lose their ability to stay focused on their goals. They look to expand their knowledge base on a daily basis. They revisit both their triumphs and humiliations and review the lessons in each. They create a behavior that shows the world who they always confront their issues and resolve then either emotionally or in reality, with dispatch.
Richard says, “Living outside-in is about being noticed, not being remembered and living inside-out is about being remembered, not noticed.”
Living an inside-out life is much more than how you feel: it is a total definition through your behavior of how you view your life.
